Spring has sprung at Chanel
I spent yesterday afternoon visiting with all my lovelies at Chanel who came from freezing NY to present us lucky few make up artists with the gorgeous new spring beauty collection for 2010, Les Impressions Des Chanel. I played around with the colors while drinking champagne and catching up with everyone it was so much fun!
The color pallette for Spring is incredible, totally refined but still playful (what did I expect, it is Chanel after all.) I was fortunate enough to have attended the ready to wear show in Paris last October so I already had a feel for the inspiration behind the collection but it’s always a great surprise to see how the whole thing gets boiled down.
One of the things I love about Chanel is that the beauty collections are always an extension of what Karl creates for the runway and they are always a revelation for me. Spring 2010 was inspired by Marie Antionette’s quest for the simple life and the pleasure she found while living at her pristine man made vision of a country hamlet on the grounds of Versailles. The entire collection has this very blissful optimistic feel to it, the kind you get from creating your own little bubble of happiness in a crazy world.
Karl captured the peacefulness of her oblivion and translated her “ignorance is bliss attitude” into colors, textures and shapes perfectly and the beauty collection is no exception. The pallette is filled with pale pinks, nudes and soft burnished ambers with earthy but totally luxurious textures. Never has life on the farm looked so glamourous! I predict the peasants will be happy for a change, Vive Chanel!
