Gilded Lady

Well, I’m back from Pah-ree and seriously cannot WAIT to share all of my Parisian adventures, I have SO MANY major new discoveries! What is it about Paris, no matter how many times I visit, it just continues to unravel before me? Anyway, it’s WAY to much amazing stuff for one post so I am planning on breaking up all the Frenchie goodness into a few segments so as not to overwhelm anyone with my enthusiasm. I mean, the food alone deserves it’s own novel!

The City of Light feeds my artist’s soul like no other city on Earth, and I must say this trip was beyond inspirational. A major highlight was attending Chanel’s incredible haute couture show at the Grand Palais which was just exquisitely beautiful…

…as was Ms. Leighton Meester—who’s make up I did that evening.

Leighton couldn’t be more stylish and that face, what a beauty! I used a mix of cool and warm metallics shades on her eyes from Chanel’s awesome new eyeshadow quad “Enigma” coming out in the Fall.

On hers lips I dabbed a warm nude called Sweet Honey by Yves Saint Laurent. No cheek color, just a tiny bit of sculpting under the cheekbones with my favorite new Nars bronzer “irresistiblement.”

Leighton is so uber chic, I can’t wait to work with her again. Watch the whole Chanel show here.

A for Emma!

I spent last weekend in Cancun with one of my favorite people in the whole wide world Emma Stone. We were there doing international press for her new movie Easy A, which I incindentally CANNOT WAIT for! It’s a little bit Ferris Bueller, a little bit Mean Girls with a whole lot of The Scarlet Letter thrown in for good measure. I have to say that what makes this movie so exciting is that for the most part it pays long over due homage to the kind of insanely good teen angst films that I grew up adoring by directors like Cameron Crow and John Hughes.

As usual, our little family of girls laughed continiously, ate way too much junk food, played dress up and spent a friggin’ ransom at the Duty Free shop on the most bizarre items. I must say this little gaggle of candy/beauty junkies descending on that poor shop must have been a truly frightening sight! I’ll just say that there was a jumbo size Mentos container in somebody’s basket and leave it at that. You know who you are. :)

On Saturday night we attended the “Burlesque” theme party for Christina Aguilera’s new movie with Cher, yes Cher is in it! We had some fun playing around in the dressing rooms they set up. We also ran into my friend Steve Sollitto, Christina’s make up artist who was sweet enough to introduce us to her. It was awesome.

I’ve been working with Emma since Superbad in 2007 and seriously could not adore her more. To see her come into her own in her first leading role has me coming out of my skin with joy. Her character, Olive Pendergast, I have no doubt will become as relevant a teen icon to her generation as Alecia Silverstone’s Cher in Clueless was in the ’90s or Molly Ringwald’s Samantha Baker was in Sixteen Candles in the ’80s.

Olive speaks the language of a whole new crop of kids to whom texting and iPhones are just the everyday norm, and the role that internet gossip plays here is surely as significant as the mixed tape in the boombox was to Say Anything.

Easy A doesn’t come out until mid Sept but until then let me introduce you to Miss Olive Penderghast. Oh Olive we’ve needed a girl like you!

“Queen of the Scene”

Iconic model of the late ’60s and ’70s, grandaughter of the brilliant fashion genius Elsa Schiapparelli, once coined “the girl of the Seventies” by Yves Saint Laurent, Marisa Berenson has to be one of the most exquisite beauties of all time.

This make up is ridiculously inspirational!

Marisa drawn by the legendary fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez for Valentino.

Wearing Halston in Morocco.

Halston and his muse.

1972 in Cabaret.

As Lady Lyndon in Kubrick’s masterpiece Barry Lyndon.

Celebrating the centenary of Marcel Proust’s birth at a costume ball thrown by Baron Guy de Rothschild, Marisa went dressed as Luisa Casati, an acquaintance of her grandmother.

Sometimes a woman comes along who embodies the spirit of her time with effortless quality that that defies all words. Marisa was one of the most captivating woman of her era. I’m just thrilled to be able to visit her there in the land of inspiration from time to time.

January in July

Check out the July issue of C magazine with the insanely gorgeous January Jones on the cover! We shot the cover on the rooftop of the Thompson Beverly Hills a few months back with photographer Matthias Vriens McGrath.

It was an awesome day with tons of fabulous fashion provided by the amazing Elizabeth Stewart and hair perfection provided by none other than Mr. Mark Townsend, ever heard of him? :)

I love how the pictures turned out, they really seem to capture her cool fashion sensibility. I used an Chanel aubergine eyeshadow called “Magic Night” on her eyes and Tom Ford’s blush nude on her lips for the cover and my fav lip color of the moment Shisiedo Perfect Rouge in Fuchsia for the inside. Cool color palette, cool girl!

Here are some of my fav behind the scenes pics from our day on set.
