The Body Beautiful
I feel like the luckiest girl in the world to get to work with women I admire and in Christina Hendricks’ case pretty much worship. I mean, could she be more of EVERYTHING worth celebrating about being a woman? I am so happy she has unwittingly become the poster child for modern femininity. We need more reasons to bask in the glory of our figures and celebrate what makes our bodies different from men, um HELLO! Don’t get me wrong, I can appreciate Kate Moss’ style as much as the next girl, but when it comes down to the feminine ideal, I think most men would agree a woman with the frame of a teenage boy isn’t quite what makes them crazy.
We shot this cover just a few weeks back and I knew right away it was going to cause a stir. The inspiration of the day was Botticelli’s “Birth of Venus”, which doesn’t surprise me at all. I’m sure if Botticelli were alive today Christina would be his kind of lady.
Lady in Red
And then God made woman…Christina Hendricks’ beauty continues to keep me in total awe. Yesterday she attended the AFI Awards Luncheon yesterday wearing a classic little red dress by Dior. I kept her make up soft and muted so her natural beauty was the focus—which isn’t hard, believe me.
Working with her is a total joy, she’s such a fantastic actress and I love the calm confidence she always exudes. Thanks Christina for showing us how its done.
